Where is the love?

Music is all about love. Whether it’s a break-up, romance, religion, or the world, love crosses genres and continents. Humans are fascinated by it and attracted to it. We connect through music.

In 2003, The Black Eyed Peas asked us “Where is the love?” I was 12 years old when the song was released, so I was initially attracted to the mainstream pop tune…it was only about a year or so later that I realized I’d been asking myself that question since 9/11 opened my naive eyes to the world’s tragedy.

The Beatles sang “love is all you need” and they couldn’t have been more right. There have been so many tragedies and persecutions that, for lack of better phrasing, have gone viral over the last year and it breaks my heart. Every time one hits, no matter what it’s about, I find myself asking why we all can’t just get along.

My heart goes out to everyone who was effected by last week’s shooting in Orlando but I’m extremely glad to see the way it’s brought so many people and communities out to help. I also think that what some celebrities are doing to raise money and/or awareness for the LGBT community is an inspiration.

If you haven’t heard the #BroadwayForOrlando single, which is raising money for the LGBT Community Center of Central Florida, click the hashtag and give it a listen. Your ears will thank you…and maybe some day, we’ll all get along.
