Books are pretty great.

I wish I had more time to read. Most of the time, I just end up reading the Harry Potter series over and over again…because it makes me happy.

But there’s nothing like starting (and finishing) a new and amazing book. Here are a few of my favorite recent reads (in no particular order).

Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald by Therese Anne Fowler

Ironically, there are no words for how amazingly beautiful this book is written. I absolutely adore F. Scott Fitzgerald’s books, but never knew much of his wife. This book is wonderful, that’s all I can say.

The Woman I Wanted to Be by Diane von Furstenberg

This is one of the best book recommendations I’ve ever been given. Not only is DVF a style inspiration but she’s also an entrepreneurial genius. Her story is truly inspiring. In my opinion, I think that any woman in business should read this, whether she is into fashion or not.

What Would Audrey Do? by Pamela Keogh

Although it’s technically a biography, the style is not dull, and it’s organized in a way that is much easier to read than a typical non-fiction book.

I Had a Nice Time (And Other Lies) by The Betches

Whether you’re looking for love or you just want a good chuckle, this book is pretty much perfect for everyone. Read my full review here.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by JK Rowling, Jack Thorne, John Tiffany

Did you really think the newest HP book wouldn’t make the list? HA. Although it’s not what we’d expect from Rowling (ie; a brilliantly written novel), it’s still brilliantly written and the plot is everything I’ve ever wanted. Don’t listen to the bad reviews; they just didn’t expect to be reading a script, or can’t appreciate the beauty of one.

How to be Parisian Wherever You Are by Anne Berest, Audrey Diwan, Caroline De Maigret, Sophie Mas

A quick read on French culture and style. Perfect for anyone with Parisian wanderlust or an obsession with style.

Modern Romance by Aziz Ansari

Are you sensing a bit of a trend, here? This book was also a great recommendation from a friend of mine and I think is completely fascinating. Again, even if you’re not in a relationship, the studies discussed in this book are fascinating and Ansari’s humor just makes it even more interesting.

Note: If you download the audiobook, Ansari narrates and it will have you laughing out loud as you listen.

In My Shoes by Tamara Mellon

I’d say this memoir is geared towards fashionistas as well as entrepreneurs, and anyone who can relate to stories of addiction and depression. I can relate to all of the above, so I’m in love.

Here’s a complete list of my favorite books.

Hi, I’m Marie…and I’m a shopaholic.

Actually, I’m a binge shopper. I’m not one to perpetually shop but when I do…I splurge.

Like when Victoria’s Secret is having a sale.

Like today.

In my defense, it’s been a rough week. I haven’t had running water at my apartment since Saturday night, and I’m skeptical it will be fixed tonight. Call it what you want: You may say addiction, I say therapy. If only BCBS covered it…

I’ve also been working my butt off in the office, which is why I’ve been woefully neglectful of my blog. Sorry. Life is hard, so I bought this shirt…

Anyway…I’m sitting at this cafe near my office, trying to write a post that actually means something…but I’m so distracted. Scattered.

Needless to say, I’m about to hit ‘check out’ on a pretty full cart. Thank God for my Victoria’s Secret credit card…or maybe it’s the death of me. As long as I pay it off, right?

A Mountain Mood

Hiking: Boulder, Colorado.

There’s something about the mountains…

I can’t quite put my finger on it. They’re soothing. Invigorating. Motivating. Inspiring. They’re everything, all at once.

If you’re in a bad mood, the mountains will fix it. If you’re happy, they will literally elevate you in your joy.

Do NOT Text Him #38

Reorganize your Pinterest boards.

I don’t know if it’s my crazy schedule or the fact that I spent an obscene amount of time working on things from this list, but I’m actually at a point where not texting him – or ANYONE – is kind of a way of life now.

But it’s nice to have a whimsical list of post ideas that I can pull from when I’m stuck.

That said, if you’re going to try reorganizing your Pin boards, be prepared to fall down the rabbit hole. Lucky for me, I can consider it “working” because I’m not just reorganizing but optimizing my boards (see my actual write up on Pinterest optimization).

Regardless, the minute you decide to dig your nails into the depths of your pin boards, you’ll be lost. It’s easiest to do on your computer, so your phone will sit nearby, neglected. Time will go by faster than you could have ever imagined because you’re suddenly overwhelmed with figuring out if you want to divide your style boards up by season or wondering just how many cute animal boards is too many.

If you’re lucky, you may even come across a DIY project you forgot you’d pinned and end up actually doing it.

Do you love to travel?

As much as I love being home, I get restless. When that happens, the only thing to do is pack a bag and leave town. Lucky for me, I have two homes (Austin and Chicago), so I know I’m going somewhere different at least a few times every year. Even better, is that even though I’m technically a “grown up,” I’m still invited on my family’s annual vacations.

Needless to say, I’ve been to some pretty cool places, and I have plans to visit even more. But the thing is, I’d like to keep my Wanderlust posts weekly (because really…how catchy is ‘Wanderlust Wednesday’?).

Because of this, I need your help.

I’m enlisting friends, family, followers, and peers to join my Travel Team and guest blog. I want #WanderlustWednesday to become a community of free spirited travel bugs! You don’t need to be a complete globe-trotter. Just one cool place will do (there’s a lust after wander for a reason)!

Beachy.

St. Thomas, Virgin Islands

Summer 2010

This one’s a bit of a throwback, but I’m gearing up and getting excited for this year’s beachy vacation. I’d just graduated from high school and to be honest, I thought this would be my last family vacation (thank God I was wrong), so I was pretty stoked. On top of that, even though St. Thomas is one of the US Virgin Islands, the drinking age is still 18, not 21; which meant I got to party.

Nothing can compare to sitting on the beach or your resort pool with a frozen mango margarita…except when you can savor it because you’re still too young to drink at a regular American resort.

It was also super relaxing. If you get the chance, I’d highly recommend visiting the Virgin Islands. Just the view is enough to calm you down and take you to a place where you don’t have to worry about deadlines. It’s just you, your book, and the sea.

…Oh, and a few million iguanas.

Be unstoppable.

I’ve subscribed to this whole #BossBabe thing for quite some time. I’ve been a boss while working a dead-end job, as a barista, as a freelancer, a blogger, and now, doing something I love at a company that appreciates my abilities. I’ve been happy, stressed, skint, depressed, and every emotion in between.

But even at my lowest point, I didn’t lose my drive. My motivation is who I am; Some days are more difficult than others, but in the end, it’s what keeps me going.

I’m not a huge fan of super-cheesy, girly quote crap, but these are some of my favorite #BossBabe quotes that inspire me when I’m feeling down. Hopefully, they motivate you, too.

“Life is very short.

Insecurity is a waste of time.

– Diane Von Furstenberg
